What Is a Reassurance Ultrasound?

A reassurance ultrasound is an elective, non-diagnostic ultrasound experience for expectant parents who would simply love another opportunity to see their baby between routine prenatal appointments. Whether you are early in pregnancy or just looking forward to another special glimpse, your visit is designed to feel calm, personal, and meaningful.

At True Ultrasound, reassurance ultrasounds are performed in a private, welcoming setting by an ARDMS-credentialed OB sonographer. Our goal is to give you time to connect with your baby and enjoy beautiful keepsake moments while continuing your routine prenatal care with your healthcare provider.

What You May See During an Early Reassurance Ultrasound

Every pregnancy develops on its own timeline, and even a difference of a few days can change what is visible on ultrasound. What you may see will depend on your gestational age, the baby's development, position, and your gestational age, your baby’s development and position, and what can be visualized transabdominally.

6–7 Weeks

This is often your first tiny glimpse. Early pregnancy structures may be visible, and cardiac activity may sometimes be seen depending on your exact dating and what can be visualized during the appointment.

8–10 Weeks

Baby becomes easier to recognize as development progresses. You may be able to see a more defined little body and early movements, depending on gestational age and visibility.

11–13 Weeks

Baby is growing quickly, with the head, body, arms, and legs becoming much easier to recognize. You may also see active movements during your visit.

Because this is an elective, non-diagnostic ultrasound, any medical concerns or unexpected symptoms should always be discussed with your prenatal healthcare provider.

Preparing for Your Reassurance Ultrasound

We want your visit to feel simple, comfortable, and relaxing. A little preparation can help us get the best view possible during your early pregnancy ultrasound.

Before 10 Weeks

Please arrive with a comfortably full bladder. About 45 minutes before your appointment, empty your bladder, then drink 32 oz of fluid. Please avoid using the restroom again until after your session. A full bladder can help improve the viewing window during an early transabdominal ultrasound.

Give Yourself Time

Early pregnancy can change quickly. If you are very early, even a difference of a few days may affect what can be seen during your visit.

What to Wear

Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to your lower abdomen. Two-piece clothing is recommended for easier access to your lower abdomen.
